AMPJACK® Underground Cathodic Protection System Installations – Vancouver Island Project

AMPJACK® Underground Cathodic Protection System Installations – Vancouver Island Project    Cathodic Protection System Project Introduction:  From April to May 2022, AMPJACK® executed a comprehensive corrosion risk mitigation project on Vancouver Island for BC Hydro. The primary objective was to enhance the longevity of 54 existing lattice towers across multiple high-voltage transmission lines. The project encompassed the installation of cathodic protection systems, including sacrificial magnesium anodes, to preserve the structural integrity of the transmission infrastructure. Additionally, AMPJACK® conducted follow-up surveys at 3 and 6 months to verify the systems’ effective functioning.    Project Challenges:  The Vancouver Island project presented unique logistical challenges due to its remote location. The team had to navigate weather-related obstacles, including heavy rain and cool temperatures, further complicating the installation process.    Solutions Proposed:  AMPJACK® approached the project with meticulous planning and crew resiliency strategies. The team’s robust planning ensured efficient mobilization to the island, while their unwavering determination and adaptability helped overcome adverse weather conditions.    Outcome:  Despite the challenges faced, AMPJACK® achieved outstanding results, successfully completing all 54 system installations within the agreed timeframe and contractual commitments. The project’s success stands as a testament to AMPJACK®’s expertise and dedication to delivering top-notch cathodic protection solutions, fortifying the transmission lines and securing BC Hydro’s infrastructure for the long term.

Energized 110kV Double Circuit Tower Restoration – SaskPower

Reviving Double Circuit Towers This report highlights the outstanding accomplishment of Ampjack in restoring and revitalizing critically damaged and leaning towers along a remote northern 110kV double circuit transmission line for SaskPower.  https://youtu.be/SsNiY1xrQQk Introduction: Leveraging their expertise and collaborating with Big Ice Services and APE Drilling, Ampjack triumphed over a range of formidable challenges, including difficult access and unpredictable subsurface conditions. Employing their modified AMPJACK® tower lift system, they successfully restored these towers, guaranteeing the ongoing reliability and optimal performance of SaskPower’s transmission line. Gain deeper insights into this impressive undertaking and discover the remarkable results attained by Ampjack in this energized 110kV double circuit tower restoration project. Background: Ampjack undertook the repair of 15 critically damaged and leaning towers on a remote northern 110kV double circuit transmission line. These towers required urgent attention due to severe damage and corrosion.  Challenges: The project posed several challenges, including the remote location and rough terrain, making access difficult. Unknown subsurface conditions further complicated the foundation installation process. Additionally, the towers exhibited significant damage, with some leaning over 7 feet at their peak and extensive corrosion below the groundline.  Solutions: Ampjack formed a project team consisting of Big Ice Services and APE Drilling. Big Ice Services constructed over 70 kilometers of ice and winter roads to provide access to the tower sites. APE Drilling offered innovative foundation installation solutions tailored to the rugged terrain and unknown subsurface conditions. Ampjack took charge of project management, design, material procurement, and construction services, including tower upgrades, levelling, corrosion repairs, and cathodic protection installation.  Outcome: Through a collaborative approach, the project was successfully completed on time and within the allocated budget. Ampjack’s expertise in live line and live load construction methods allowed for the safe and efficient restoration and upgrade of the critically damaged and leaning towers. This comprehensive maintenance project ensured the continued reliability and longevity of the transmission line.    PARTIES INVOLVED Big Ice Services Apollo Piling – APE Drilling

Ampjack Peforms a historical 735kV tower raise project

Lévis, Québec 2021 Ampjack was recently awarded our 1st 735kV tower raise contract representing a significant number of tower raises on 2 critical transmission lines for Hydro-Québec. After several months of close collaboration of engineering and planning, our 1st tower raise was executed in the Spring of 2021.      For this project, the Ampjack Team engineered a tower raising system that could apply to 2 different tower types on 2 different transmission lines.  The 1st phase of this work has now been completed and tower raises on the second line will be starting very soon. We are very pleased to be working with the Hydro-Québec Team and the tower raises are on schedule.
