Western Area Power Authority 230 kV Double Circuit Tower Raise

Sioux City Iowa, Bismarck North Dakota and various locations in South Dakota

Ampjack Industries Ltd. completed 40 tower raises on 230 kV double circuit transmission lines for Western Area Power Authority - Upper Great Plains region, during the Fall and Winter of 2015/16.

The structures were raised by 5’ and 8’ heights, in 5’ and 3’ increments to gain ground clearance in order to meet NERC facility rating requirements. This upgrade project was part of WAPA’s Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) program, which successfully contributed to the Upper Great Plains’ region realizing substantial cost savings compared to traditional construction methods. The project was a success due the low cost solution, minimal environmental impact, and compact design of the AMPJACK® tower lift system.
